Carlos Baldo is an Assistant Professor of International Business at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX, since August 2023. His academic and professional credentials include significant international experience. In 2015, he received his PhD in Management and Business Administration with Cum Laude distinction from Pablo de Olavide University in Seville, Spain. In 2006, while working in the private sector, he earned an MBA with a concentration in International Business from Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. In 1998, he completed a Licentiate degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Universidad Fermin Toro in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. His other academic achievements include a Diploma in International Business and Marketing from Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain, and Treasury Professional training from Florida International University.
Prior to joining UIW, Dr. Baldo accumulated over 12 years of teaching and leadership positions at institutions such as Colorado Mesa University, Southwest Oklahoma State University, Aquinas College in Michigan, Clarion University of Pennsylvania, Universidad Centro Occidental Lisandro Alvarado, and Universidad Fermin Toro in Venezuela. He has taught a variety of courses, including Organizational Behavior, Business Ethics, International Business, Emerging Markets, Research Design, and Human Resources at both graduate and undergraduate levels. His dissertation, titled “The Relation Client-Headhunter-Candidate from the Agency Theory Perspective,” explored the interaction between executive search firms, clients, and candidates. His research, presented in various countries, focuses on topics such as triadic relationships, executive recruitment, Agency Theory, and International Management.
Dr. Baldo is a member of several professional organizations, including the Academy of Management, Academy of International Business, Management and Organizational Behavior Teaching Society, and the Southwest Academy of Management. He maintains an active research agenda with several papers under review and others in development.
Before entering academia, he worked for 12 years in the private sector, holding positions such as Controller and Accounting Support for the LATAM region. In addition to his academic and research responsibilities, he occasionally provides consulting services in areas such as business model transformation, cross-cultural training, executive recruitment, succession planning, and internationalization strategy.
A firm believer in second chances, Dr. Baldo supports the notion that failure builds character. He remains grateful for the opportunities he has received and is committed to helping undergraduate students shape their future careers.
